@darius That’s great! What else are you planting?
The weather was nice enough down here in LA (shocker!) that we were able to plant in April.
This is our fourth year growing tomatoes, but our first time trying to grow them vertically on string. I’m a little nervous about it, but they seem to be doing well so far!
@wouter If you like Picross, Mario Picross 2 is Japan-exclusive. For text-light, I only have that, Druaga, and a Goemon platformer. My favorite is Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, but you’ll need a fan translation. Otherwise, lots of text-light games that are much cheaper to import than buy here (e.g. Kirby Tilt n Tumble, even the original Picross!).
@darius I taught my niece Ruby using Hackety Hack years ago. It was an easy install, Ruby is (imo) fun and generally useful, and there's plenty of Ruby help/resources out there. It looks like Hackety Hack is no longer maintained, but that would have been my answer 10 years ago 😆
I can't think of anything better than Excel today. Do kids still learn TI-BASIC on their graphing calculators?
@darius I recall from runyourown.social that you had a separate server full-text search. Any rough guidelines on resource requirements? I'm on a tiny VPS and didn't enable FTS because I didn't see anything in the Mastodon documentation about system reqs.
Mac dev ecosystem complaining
@darius My daily is a 2016 MBP (2.7GHz i7, 16GB RAM, Radeon 460) running macOS 12.3.1. I haven't noticed any performance issues, but I've always stayed current and probably wouldn't notice gradual degradation. Still, I'm happy enough that I haven't felt a need for a new machine.
For science, I did a brew update && brew upgrade this morning -- 53 formulae and 1 cask without issue.
@darius First Hometown migration went smoothly -- excited to try it out! I do think the "Initial migration" wiki still mentions 3.4.6 in a few spots though. I don't think GitHub lets me submit PRs on the wiki though :/
I have just released Hometown v1.0.5+3.5.2!
No new features, just bringing things up to parity with the latest Mastodon v3.5.2. Lots of cool new features thanks to their team and contributors, though.
We will have some Hometown tweaks/fixes/features coming soon though!
